And the winner is…

The students have spoken. The votes have been counted and the moment has finally arrived for us to announce this year’s winner of I’m a Scientist, Get me out of Here! After two weeks of hot debate, stimulating chat and mind-boggling facts, the students have decided the winner in this zone is…

Martin!

Congratulations Martin! The students have voted you their favourite scientist and most worthy of the £500 prize to communicate your science work.

Hard luck to Chris and thank you to all the other scientists who took part, you were all brilliant and each and every single one of you has contributed to the great success of this year’s event.

Please join us in June for the next I’m a Scientist, Get me out of Here!

Brilliant! I am chuffed that all those guys out there thought I was worth voting for – I am so grateful!

I have REALLY enjoyed all of your questions. Even “What is a dog?”.

I will try to make an excuse to visit some of the schools in my travels if I can. I might be able to put some of the money towards the trip!

Chris – brilliant contest, I honestly thought you had edged it. But you certainly deserved to win just as much as I did. But I guess that brains are just cooler than blood! 😀

Congratulations Martin, all my students were voting for you. We are on holiday now so everything is great.

      • Chris says:

all – not even one for me?? boo hoo – I’m going to sulk now….

        • Martin says:

That is a bit harsh! I am sure that Chris must have appealed to quite a lot of them!

      • Martin says:

Many thanks – it is difficult to know WHAT people are thinking. It is not like reading a live audience, its more scary!

  2. Chris says:

    Well done – much deserved!!!!

I tried to steal your brain glory sometimes but all to no avail…….

    • Martin says:

You didn’t need to. You had a great pitch on the medical side of your work – I am fascinated anyway!

      • Natalie says:

I’m sure the blood side got plenty of votes too. It’s a interesting area. Congrats on the second place, I saw the amount of questions you guys had in the last few days, it was a good effort keeping up with those alone! And I’ll pass on a hey to Hans when I next see him 😉

  3. Natalie says:

Congrats Martin. Glad to have been beaten by such a worthy opponent, and great to see that computational modeling CAN be interesting to others. Hope the Science ‘busking’ continues to go well.

    • Martin says:

Yeah! Computational modelling as a cool interesting subject? Is that a pig all the way up there 😀

    • Martin says:

I am really delighted. Most of my colleagues here at the university thought I was certain to be voted off because what I do is a bit difficult to explain – I think they underestimate you guys!

Anyway – all the scientist (particularly Chris ib the last two days) worked really hard and your support is humbling!

  12. lani says:

    well done

    • Martin says:

I owe part of it to those people (like you) that asked really challenging questions!

  13. Martin says:

I really enjoyed it – and the fact that you guys liked my answers is a real bonus – many thanks!
