I got into science education outside my university teaching because I liked the challenge. Also at university the students are (inevitably) quite exam focussed. Not teaching to a curriculum brings the fun back into science for me.

      Hi there

I have always thought that scientists don’t get out of the lab enough. Science is part of everything we do and we need to talk to people honestly and plainly about what science is and why it is important.

This is a serious issue but there is no point in being too serious about it 😀

So many of us use our free time to go in to schools, vist festivals and so on to try ang get people to see that science isn’t just old men with beards wearing white coats!

Have a look at my profile if you want details of the projects I have in mind.

I know quite a few people who are very into science and knowledgeable about it, but aren’t actually scientists. I though it would be a really good idea to open up journal clubs designed for anyone interested in science in order to get more people talking about it.

The other use, putting towards a conference, is important for me as a young scientist trying to establish myself in research. It gives me the opportunity to present to some of my peers and get my work out there for others to see and question. Science only gets better from feedback.
