main advantages I would say are:
1. A lot of freedom in what subject you can work on and how you decide to do the work.
2. There are always new discoveries to be made so it never gets old and boring.
3. The hours you work are quite flexible as long as you get the work done.
4. You know that there is a chance you could make a major discovery at some point (everyone has to dream :))
5. Get to travel a lot when you present your work.
It’s different every day so you never get bored, you get to do something that has a point to it and can help people and it’s really interesting.
Oh and like Martin says, flexible hours! I’m not a morning person and prefer to get up later and work into the evening. Generally working in a university this isn’t a problem – as long as you work hard and get the job done, which you want to do as it is your work and really interetsing.
