      why do we have green blood?? There is no reason I think. The oxygen we breathe is slightly toxic ad sometimes parts of our blood get damaged

      how did you find out? We stressed people (hard exercise) and separated their blood on a device called a HPLC. This splits the parts of the blood up and measures the colours they have

      did it take long?? No – the experiment is quick. One day. But it was a chance discovery (we thought there would be a change but not this one). So it was not planned in advance.

      did you have help or did you do it alone?? Yes – a young Dutch student did the exercise work and an English research fellow did the measurement. I just got the credit for it !!! (not really of course as I always acknowledge the roles of Niels Vollaard and Brandon Reeder when talking about the work to audiences).
